Thirds on a Knife Edge
And so with the Christmas break looming, the last of the Thirds Competition has been played for this year. It is now balanced with only a bottom of the table clash scheduled for 11th January and the top of the table clash on 18th January left to determine the final positions.
Dont forget that before then on Monday 19th December at 7.30, we still have our Individual Points Competition (see post below). This is open to ALL club members, rink players and reserves and even anyone from the non-playing members list !

Points Competition
Our annual POINTS COMPETITION is on :-
Monday 19th December at 7.30.
and is open to ALL Members and Reserves.
For those unfamiliar with a Points Competition, it is a solo competition, so no fear of letting anyone (other than Yourself) down !
It consists of a series of exercises (Take outs, draws, tap ups etc) with 4 attempts at each type of shot.
Most importantly it is a FUN competition which allows you to practice shots that you may not have had the chance to play before. You will also play about twice as many stones as you would in a normal club match.
The benefits:-

Morgan wins a (the) Trophy
In a tight aggressive game that would decide the destination of the Club Trophy, Morgan's foursome edged Graeme's team 6 shots to 4. Almost as tight was the decision whether an eighth end should be played or not. Had Morgans final stone come to a rest or was it still spinning ? (the jury is still out !).
Congratulations to Morgan, Dale, Sheena and Rosie.

Incoming American Men's Tour
East Lothian Province has been asked to provide one four-man team (sorry ladies, this one is men only) to play a game against one of the incoming American teams at Murrayfield on 18 February 2012 at a time yet to be announced.
East Lothian Province's President, John Shedden, has asked each of the 8 clubs to nominate 1 player, from which the team, of 4, will be selected.
If you wish your name to be put forward, please contact John Smail as soon as possible.

Leswalt 150th Anniversary Bonspiel
There were 20 teams from all round the country taking part, and our squad took to the ice at 10.30 in the morning. Despite the ice being very challenging, with slight frost, some fast patches and some areas of fall back Morgan managed to skip us against a very experienced Leswalt side to an impressive score to nil. The Leswalt skip advised that he had been curling for 50 years and that was the first time he had been grannied (wish I had been so lucky).

Following the Bonspiel was a Grand Dinner at which Aberlady were awarded the overall prize and John Good offered thanks on behalf of all the competing teams.
(Apologies for the lack of photos, but I left my camera in Stranraer - Photos by Liz)

The Trophy Competition
The first match in the Trophy Competition saw the two skips from the Knockout Competition facing each other. This time both were present on the ice. First blood, and revenge went to Morgan with a big score win against Mike. This may only serve to make him mad
Knockout Competition
Congratulations to Mike Wood and his team, who narrowly won the final, in the skips absence.
Cathy Maclean skipping in place of Morgan was just pipped at the post.
Interesting to note that neither designated skip was on the ice for the final. (Could this be the next generation?)
The scores and results are on the Results Page.
